Hello Sunrise Toastmasters Members and guests!
Rewind from November 13, 2015
This meeting was held at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in the North Tower (Room NT102A) and started at 7:00 AM. We had a total of 12 members present at our meeting. Welcome our newest member, Pam!
President Summer Murphy opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and welcomed up Past-President Angela Marsh as Toastmaster for the morning. She set a lively tone for the day and challenged us to integrate the term ‘Gemba’ (Word of the Day) into our comments (which Dave successfully did!).
The first speaker, Summer Murphy, completed a special project from the Toastmasters International Better Speaker Series, titled ‘Impromptu Speaking.’ She presented participants with a five-step method for thinking and responding on-your-feet: an essential, everyday life skill. We all found her approach to be simple and useful as we strive to achieve our overall Toastmasters goals. The second speaker, Esther Khoury, completed her final speech in the ‘Storytelling’ Advanced Communication Manual . She artfully orated Mahatma Gandhi’s famous 1948 “Quit India” speech with poise and conviction. In times of unrest and conflict, Gandhi’s message of nonviolent protest in defense of an ideal cannot be proclaimed enough.
Tim Murphy led the club in a round of presidential Table Topics. The club enjoyed 3 rounds of table topics before moving into evaluations. Thanks to Mike Stipanov and Jenna Willingham for serving as evaluators, to Dave Burr for evaluating the meeting in general, and to Steve Stephens for serving as Timer/Grammarian.
