President Summer Murphy began the meeting by sharing meaningful insights on the unfair treatment of individuals based on their race. This led to a moment of silence in support of Black Lives Matter movement. Summer also introduced the bias flag and encouraged us to use it to support our journey of becoming better speakers. Toastmaster Tina Joe then took over, managing and facilitating the meeting. Tina introduced the word of the day, “emotion,” and shared further thoughts on its significance.
Toastmaster Summer Murphy introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Stiles Burr. Stiles delivered a captivating speech that took us on a remarkable journey through the dynamics of school friendship and its profound impact on our lives. Following Stiles’ speech, Summer provided thoughtful and comprehensive feedback, highlighting both areas of strength and areas for improvement. Excellent job, Stiles!
Toastmaster Dave Burr introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Renuka Korlipara. Renuka delivered a thought-provoking speech on the topic of multi-tasking and its correlation with aging. Drawing insights from scientific research, Renuka presented the perspective of scientists regarding the impact of multi-tasking on long-term stress and burnout. The speech left us contemplating whether multi-tasking truly proves beneficial in the long run or NOT. Following Renuka’s speech, Dave provided comprehensive feedback, offering specific examples to assess the areas in need of improvement as well as commendable aspects. Fabulous effort!
Toastmaster Norris Bass led an interactive table topics portion, presenting thought-provoking questions to elicit spontaneous responses. The purpose was to enhance our ability to think on our feet, compose coherent thoughts, and effectively respond to impromptu questions. Well crafted questions, Norris!
During the meeting, Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie took on the role of General Evaluator, offering feedback on the meeting overall. Toastmaster Greg Sutton provided the Timer report, ensuring that each segment adhered to the allotted time. And Toastmaster Kerstin Haase shared the Grammarian report, emphasizing effective language usage. Well done to the GE team for their contributions!
