President Summer Murphy began the meeting by sharing meaningful insights on the connection between inequality and civil wars or conflicts, highlighting the disparities in wealth and resources can generate grievances and a sense of injustice, and leading us to the moment of silence in support and acknowledgement of Black Lives Matter movement. Summer also introduced the bias flag and encouraged us to use it to support our journey of becoming better speakers. Toastmaster Renuka Korlipara then took over, managing and facilitating the meeting. Renuka introduced the word of the day, “instinctive.”
Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni introduced our first speaker and moderator, Toastmaster Tim Murphy, who led a panel discussion titled “The Evolving Role of Being a Dad.” Tim delivered a unique speech, joined by panelists Dave, John, and Norris, as they shared their perspectives and experiences on parenting and increasing involvement in providing emotional support to their children. The panelists emphasized the significance of actively listening, offering comfort, and nurturing their children’s emotional well-being. They also expressed their desire to achieve a better work-life balance, with a focus on spending quality time with their children. The speech had a Q&A part where audience questions were addressed. Following Tim’s speech, Anu provided thoughtful feedback, highlighting both areas of strength and areas for improvement. Well done!
Toastmaster John Doggett led an engaging table topics session, where participants were presented with spontaneous questions and challenged to incorporate a given word into their impromptu responses. This exercise aimed to enhance our quick thinking, coherent communication skills, and ability to respond effectively on the spot. Truly enjoyable!
Toastmaster Tina Joe served as a General Evaluator, offering feedback on the meeting. Toastmaster Kerstin Haase provided the Timer report, ensuring that each segment adhered to the allotted time. And Toastmaster Savannah Murphy presented the Grammarian report, emphasizing effective language usage.
Renuka smoothly handed the meeting over to Summer to adjourn the meeting.
