Fast Forward/Rewind – March 1, 2024

Our secretary Abdulrahman Albaize opened the meeting by acknowledging the struggle that some people face based on things that they don’t have control over, leading us to the moment of silence in support and acknowledgement of the Black Lives Matter movement. Abdulrahman also introduced the bias flag and encouraged us to use it to support our journey of becoming better speakers, then turned the meeting over to our Toastmaster Summer Murphy. Summer introduced the word of the day, “conotation.”

Toastmaster Tim Murphy introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Norris Bass, who captivated the audience with an engaging narrative of personal growth and mentorship. Norris recounted his transformative experience embarking on an unfamiliar path, graciously acknowledging the invaluable support and guidance he received from those who accompanied him on this remarkable journey. Tim contributed invaluable feedback, providing constructive insights and offering suggestions for improvement.

Toastmaster John Doggett introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Savannah Murphy. Savannah shared a story of mentoring a fellow toastmaster, highlighting the challenges and the valuable life lesson of adapting to unforeseen circumstances. She inspired the audience to embrace resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity. John provided feedback, acknowledging strengths and suggesting areas for improvement!

Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni led an engaging table topic session, presenting questions to elicit spontaneous responses from participants. The primary objective of this interactive segment was to cultivate our aptitude for thinking on our feet, constructing articulate thoughts, and delivering impactful impromptu responses.

Toastmaster Kerstin Haase served as General Evaluator, providing an overview and assessment of the meeting, and acknowledging outstanding performances and commending notable contributions. Toastmaster Dave Burr delivered the Timer report, ensuring that each segment adhered to the allocated time. Toastmaster Hema Kellett stepped in to present the Grammarian report, monitoring and providing feedback on the effective use of language, and offering recommendations for improvement. Well done, Team!

Summer passed the reins of the meeting to Abdulrahman, who concluded and adjourned the meeting!
