At the meeting opening, President Summer Murphy shared an inspiring story about Madam C.J. Walker, who overcame challenges and became America’s first self-made female millionaire through her hair care business, leading us to the moment of silence in support and acknowledgement of the Black Lives Matter movement. Summer also introduced the bias flag as a tool for personal growth in our journey of becoming better speakers, and Toastmaster Tim Murphy set the tone with the word of the day, “Wishy-washy,” encouraging everyone to embrace it throughout the meeting!
Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni, who delivered an informative speech titled “Unintended Consequences.” Anu discussed the effects of our accustomed behaviors and the potential positive/negative outcomes they may bring, such as the ban on phones in schools. Abdulrahman provided feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
Toastmaster Dave Burr introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Tina Joe. Tina delivered a captivating speech titled “Why Would You Do That?” where she shared her experience as a mind architect and lifestyle design coach, emphasizing her commitment to assisting individuals in crafting purposeful lives by understanding the influence of neural pathways and conditioning. Tina shared her own story of overcoming trauma, with the remarkable plasticity of the brain and explaining how she broke free from self-limiting beliefs through education and personal growth. Dave shared feedback, highlighting the speaker’s strengths while also identifying areas for improvement.
Toastmaster Summer Murphy led an engaging table topic session, posing thought-provoking questions to encourage participants to provide spontaneous and impactful responses. The interactive segment aimed to improve participants’ ability to think quickly, articulate their thoughts effectively, and respond confidently on the spot.
Toastmaster Savannah Murphy took on the role of General Evaluator, providing a comprehensive assessment of the meeting and recognizing outstanding performances. Toastmaster Hema Kellet delivered the Timer report, ensuring adherence to allotted time. Toastmaster Norris Bass presented the Grammarian report, offering feedback on language usage and suggestions for improvement.
With a seamless transition, Tim handed over the reins of the meeting to Summer, who wrapped up the meeting and adjourned it.
