Our President, Kerstin Haase, opened the meeting with insights about black lives matter movement. Kerstin also clarified the purpose of the Bias Flag and encouraged its utilization to support our journey of becoming better speakers. Then Kerstin took the hat of the toastmaster of the day, introducing the word of the day, “steadfast,” referring to a quality of being firmly fixed in place, unwavering, and resolute in purpose or commitment.
Toastmaster Kerstin Haase invited the group to introduce themselves to our guest, Matthew Choate, helping to familiarize him with our wonderful members.
Toastmaster Stiles Burr introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Tina Joe. In her speech titled “The Final Countdown,” Tina Joe shared her experience, aiming to inspire and energize the audience, reinforcing the idea that while countdowns signify the end of one phase, they also mark the beginning of new opportunities. By blending emotional storytelling with practical advice, the speaker created a memorable experience that resonates long after the speech is delivered. Stiles provided feedback, offering insightful suggestions for improvement.
Toastmaster Stiles Burr, again, introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Dave Burr, who delivered a speech titled “Desperation.” In his address, Dave discussed his upcoming hip replacement surgery and expressed his readiness for the procedure. He conveyed optimism about a smooth recovery, indicating that he hopes to return to Toastmasters soon. Following the speech, Stiles provided constructive feedback, offering suggestions for improvement.

Toastmaster Savannah Murphy led an engaging session of Table Topics, presenting questions that covered in stories designed to spark spontaneous responses. This approach aimed to strengthen our ability to organize our thoughts and respond to impromptu questions. Great job, Savannah!
Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie served as General Evaluator, providing feedback on the meeting. Toastmaster Kendra Hiatt delivered the Timer report, ensuring timely segments. Toastmaster Norris Bass shared the Grammarian report, highlighting effective quotes and word of the day usage. Impressive teamwork!
Kerstin reviewed the upcoming week’s roles and adjourned the meeting.
