Our President, Summer Murphy, began the meeting by discussing the history of inequality and the impactful Tour of the Civil Rights Museum. We observed a moment of silence in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Summer clarified the purpose of the Bias Flag and encouraged us to use it to support our journey of becoming better speakers. Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie then took over, setting an enthusiastic tone with the word of the day, “delegate.”
Toastmaster Tim Murphy introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni. Anu presented a speech titled “Farewell 2023,” reflecting on the significant lessons and experiences that shaped her throughout the year. Tim provided exceptional feedback, offering valuable insights and constructive suggestions. Well done!
Toastmaster Dave Burr introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster John Doggett, who spoke about the value of continuous improvement and the role of open house meetings in dispelling the misconception that Toastmasters is intimidating. John emphasized the importance of attracting new members and selecting engaging speeches, table topics, and evaluations to encourage their participation. Dave provided valuable feedback, offering insightful suggestions. Great idea and speech!
Toastmaster Summer Murphy took charge of an incredibly engaging table topic session, where she presented thought-provoking questions that challenged us to think quickly and respond with spontaneity. Fantastic work, Summer!
Toastmaster Stiles Burr took on the role of General Evaluator, meticulously assessing the overall effectiveness of the meeting and providing valuable feedback. Toastmaster Kerstin Haase delivered the Timer report, ensuring that each segment of the meeting stayed within the designated time limits. Meanwhile, Toastmaster Norris Bass presented a comprehensive Grammarian report, highlighting the language usage throughout the session. The collective efforts of this remarkable team were truly amazing!
Abdulrahman reviewed the upcoming week’s roles and smoothly handed over to Summer to adjourn the meeting.
