Fast Forward/Rewind – February 17, 2023

Sunrise Toastmasters

Our Sargent at Arms, Toastmaster Tim Murphy, opened the meeting, leading us intentionally into our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Tim shared how we can use our bias flag to support our journey to become better speakers, transitioning the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Amelya Black. Amelya chose perceptive as the word of the day, encouraging us to use this word during the meeting. Roles for the agenda reviewed, and another memorable Sunrise Toastmaster’s meeting began.

Toastmaster Tim Murphy introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Savannah MurphySavannah’s speech was nothing short of brilliant, the hat-maker speech, sharing how gender is generally defined from the beginning of your life by the color of the hat you are given. Savannah reminded us that gender is complicated, and the only person that can define it is you, and challenged us to be the person willing to step over the line. This speech is planed for a Toastmaster competition March 11, you got this Toastmaster!

Toastmaster Renuka Korlipara introduced our final speaker, Toastmaster Stiles BurrStiles shared a kindhearted and informative speech on Mentors and the protégé. Stiles did a wonderful job explaining the impact a mentor can have on someone’s life, and how life long mentors make a lasting impression. Noting the first and most memorable mentor in his life is his father. This speech was fantastic, the hope of returning the gesture and being present to mentor others is impactful. Well done, Toastmaster!

Toastmaster Luz Bigelow and Renuka did a phenomenal job providing evaluation feedback, sharing strengths and ways to improve in the future. Thank you both!

Toastmaster Summer Murphy hosted Table Topics, engaging the Toastmasters to share their story, strengthening our ability to compose thoughts and speak conversationally. Great job!

Toastmaster Angela Marsh served as General Evaluator, summarizing the meeting with thoughtful feedback that helped everyone continue to improve, and led the team sharing feedback and reports. Toastmaster Greg Sutton provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie shared the Grammarian report – well done everyone!

Toastmaster Amelya reviewed roles and thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing and quotable meeting, before transitioning to Tim to close the meeting.
