VP of Education Kerstin Haase began the meeting by sharing insights on effective ways to contribute to the fight against racial injustice and inequality, and leading us to the moment of silence in support and acknowledgement of the Black Lives Matter movement. Kerstin also introduced the bias flag and encouraged us to use it to support our journey of becoming better speakers, then turned the meeting over to our Toastmaster Savannah Murphy. Savannah introduced the word of the day, “coincidence,” and gave a chance for everyone to introduce themselves briefly in a unique way!
Toastmaster Raggis Goodwin introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Summer Murphy, who delivered an inspiring speech titled “No Laz-Y-Boys Required.” Summer shared her story about overcoming mental barriers, finding mentorship, and the transformative impact of self-awareness. Raggis provided valuable feedback, offering constructive comments and suggestions for improvement.
Toastmaster Saraswathi Mahalingam introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Renuka Korlipara, who captivated the audience with heartfelt stories of mentors in her life, particularly her grandmothers. Renuka highlighted their pivotal role as the backbone of her family, emphasizing their passion for serving and assisting others in times of need. Saraswathi provided feedback, acknowledging strengths and suggesting areas for improvement.
Toastmaster Tim Murphy led an engaging table topic session, presenting questions to elicit spontaneous responses from participants. The primary objective of this interactive segment was to cultivate our aptitude for thinking on our feet, constructing articulate thoughts, and delivering impactful impromptu responses.
Toastmaster John Doggett served as General Evaluator, providing an overview and assessment of the meeting, and acknowledging outstanding performances and commending notable contributions. Toastmaster Greg Sutton delivered the Timer report, ensuring that each segment adhered to the allocated time. Toastmaster Hema Kellett presented the Grammarian report, monitoring and providing feedback on the effective use of language, and offering recommendations for improvement. Well done, Team! And excellent job on your first evaluation, Saraswathi!
Savannah passed the reins of the meeting to Kerstin, who adeptly concluded and adjourned the meeting!
