Fast Forward/Rewind – July 7th, 2023

Our Treasurer, Toastmaster Timothy Murphy, opened the meeting and congratulated our new officers for their new roles, leading us deliberately to our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Tim cleared any doubt on flagging bias, reminding us how to use our bias flag to support our journey to become better speakers, and transitioned the meeting to Toastmasters Kerstin Haase, who volunteered as a Toastmaster of the day. Kerstin introduced Seismic as the word of the day, encouraging use of this word during the meeting, and reviewed the meeting agenda.

Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Savannah Murphy. Savannah shared a pocket speech talking about effective methods to make systemic change and how Toastmasters encourages us to help each other out. The speech was well put together. Anu shared feedback, providing guidance on areas of excellence and improvement. What unique talents, toastmasters!

Toastmaster Stiles introduced the second speaker, Toastmaster Renuka Korlipara. Renuka volunteered to take on the role of the second speaker, sharing an incredible speech about mangoes and her garden. She had a very generous year; it was a pleasure to be able to harvest and share mangoes with so many people. Our second speech evaluator, Toastmaster Stiles Burr, provided constructive feedback in areas of improvement and suggestions. Stiles pinpointed that Renuka‘s speech was impressive for someone voluntarily taking on a speaking role. For improvement, one suggestion would be to show us a mango; however, it is understandable since there are no more in inventory due to generously giving others. Well done, toastmasters!

Table Topic Master, Tim, led an engaging question answer session, challenging Toastmasters with thought-provoking questions to help members develop their ability to organize their thoughts quickly and spontaneously. Great job, Tim!

Toastmaster Amelya Black served as General Evaluator, highlighted the key points, summarized the breakfast of champions portion of the meeting with thoughtful insights, and led the team in sharing feedback and reports. Toastmaster Norris Bass provided the Timer report, and Renuka shared the Grammarian report, spotting the use of filler words, the word of the day, and noting the outstanding quotes and thoughts. Excellent team!

Kerstin reviewed roles for next week, and the meeting was transitioned to Tim to close another SEISMIC Sunrise Toastmasters meeting.
