Fast Forward/Rewind – June 2, 2023

President, Toastmaster Amelya Black, opened the meeting, deliberately leading us to our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Amelya shared how to use our bias flag to support our journey to become better speakers and transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Kerstin Haase. Kerstin chose benefaction as the word of the day, defining and encouraging use of this word during the meeting. We reviewed the meeting agenda, and another memorable Sunrise Toastmasters meeting began.

Toastmaster Summer Murphy introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Amelya Black. Amelya introduced us to special people with the speech titled “Always and Forever”. This seasoned Toastmaster shared the beautiful moments remembered of several important figures that shaped values and gleamed wisdom throughout her life. This speech was beautifully written and executed, the speaker shared so many memorable quotes I’ll likely keep my notes as inspiration for future speeches, presentation was a tribute to the voices shared from the past. Well done, Toastmaster!

Toastmaster Greg Sutton introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Dave Burr. Dave did an excellent job sharing a research project with the speech titled “Give Blood”. Another seasoned Toastmaster and our Club Treasure taught us the history of and importance of donating blood. Daveshared the history of how blood donations began and some twist in the road to today. This speech provided context and enlightenment in a very natural progression, allowing us to explore ways we could support this worthy cause. Well researched and presented speech. Thank you, Toastmaster Dave!

During Table Topics, Savannah Murphy led an engaging session celebrating Pride Month, challenging Toastmasters in a spontaneous conversation session to strengthen our ability to compose thoughts and speak intentionally. A quote still lingering with me today was from Toastmaster Anu, “…moments in your life shape your life” I agree, well said Toastmaster!

Serving as our General Evaluator, Tim Murphy volunteered to serve today (thank you!), summarized the breakfast of champions portion of our meeting with depth and knowledgeable feedback of the day’s meeting. Insightful and thoughtful speech evaluations were provided by Toastmasters Summer and Greg sharing details, strengths, and areas to improve – all essential steps in our journey. Toastmaster John Doggett provided another stellar Timer report and Toastmaster Angela Marsh shared a Grammarian report with helpful detail, acknowledging use of the word of the day and bias flags. As a team they collectively helped their fellow Toastmaster’s continued learning and growth – well done everyone!

Kerstin reviewed roles for next week and the meeting was transitioned to Amelya to close another wonderful Sunrise Toastmasters meeting.
