First a  couple of announcements.

We will hold elections next week for the club.  Following are list of nominees/volunteers: President – Savannah; VP Education – Open; VP Membership – Steve Stephens; VP Public Relations – Karen; Secretary – Brian; Treasurer – Dave; and Sergeant at Arms – Norris. If you are interested in a particular role, including the open VP of Education role, please let us know and plan to attend next week.

With July 4th quickly approaching and landing mid-week, we will have a number of absences and have elected to cancel the meeting on July 6. As for the calendar, we will skip over that week and keep regularly scheduled roles for June 29 and July 13 (shown below).

Now on to a quick recap of the meeting. Our Toastmaster, Steve, offered up the Word of the Day, “strike,” which has a plethora of meanings. We went with one of the more obscure meanings as it relates to bowling and knocking down all 10 pins in a single try, and in the process learned a little about the history of bowling. Phil gave us a very emotional speech recounting a momentous story from his childhood. Dave gave us a preview of his daughter’s wedding toast, assuming she decides to get married at some point in her life (always good to plan ahead). As Table Topics Master, Mike raised a number of interesting questions about summer and the summer solstice. Brian led our evaluation team as general evaluator, and Savannah and David provided great feedback to today’s speakers. And as is our habit, when given a word like “strike” with tons of potential uses, we found a way to strike out. Make sure you attend next week, as we suspect Dave will educate us on a word we have never heard of and in the process everyone will find a way to use it.
