Fast Forward/Rewind – June 3, 2022

Our thoughtful President-Elect, Amelya Black, opened the meeting with our moment of silence for Black Lives Matter by reminding us all to look for the people who are fighting for equality and justice.

We had 9 members and one guest in attendance. Our Toastmaster for the day was Tanuja Reddy. It was her first time as Toastmaster, and she introduced glad as the word of the day, with a theme that focused on positivity and joy. Tanuja led a round of the “Glad Game,” introducing ourselves and share something we are glad about.

Kerstin Haase did a speech with a special sock puppet guest where she told us all about the importance of laughter. She let us know all the ways it helps with our physical, mental and social health and gave us a good dose of humor.

Our second speaker was Dave Burr, who gave a speech about the importance of names. He talked about the origins of various naming traditions around the world, and then focused in on the importance of getting names right in personal interactions. Dave also gave us a few tips on how to find the correct pronunciation for names we’re unfamiliar with.

Maria Leon led our Table Topics with discussions related to Pride month, the LGBT community, and equality. This was Maria’s first time as Table Topics Master, and she did an outstanding job.

Karen Rhodes stepped in as our General Evaluator and helped us see our strengths and gave us some great suggestions for how we can improve for future meetings. She led an evaluation team with Greg Sutton as Evaluator 1, Amelya Black as Evaluator 2, Savannah Murphy as Timer, and Renuka Korlipara as Grammarian.
