Our VP of Education, Toastmaster Summer Murphy, opened the meeting sharing an unforgettable devastating experience a family had Driving While Black, leading us deliberately to our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Summer cleared any doubt on flagging bias, reminding us how to use our bias flag to support our journey to become better speakers, and transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni. Anu chose Ugadi as the word of the day, defining and encouraging use of this word during the meeting. Roles were shared, we welcomed our returning members and guest, and another memorable Sunrise Toastmasters meeting began.
Toastmaster Antwain Mackey introduced the day’s fist speaker. Amelya Black shared a journey one experiences when going to camp, reminding us that peace of mind is a respected place, one where we can be nurtured, allowing us to grow. Those lucky enough heard this speech, rich in expression and message, again at the competition on Saturday. Well done President elect, your leadership is tremendous and contagious!
Toastmaster Karen Rhodes introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Angela Marsh, who shared a thoroughly researched speech describing the thin line separating us from success and failure, and how to overcome life’s challenges on this mind/body/spiritual journey of self discovery. Angela asked us to unmute our mics, and participate in the presentation – the interaction and slide show was fantastic!
Toastmaster Savannah Murphy hosted Table Topics, engaging and challenging Toastmasters and guests in conversation to strengthen our ability to compose thoughts and speak intentionally. We explored a series of firsts, reminding us of all the beauty possible in new beginnings.
Toastmaster John Doggett served as General Evaluator, summarizing the breakfast of champions portion of meeting with the thoughtful insights, leading the team in sharing feedback and reports. Toastmaster’s Antwain and Karen did a phenomenal job providing evaluation feedback to each speaker. You could not tell it was Antwain’s first time serving in this role! Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Stiles Burr shared the Grammarian report– well done, team!
Toastmaster Anu reviewed roles for next week and thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing Toastmasters meeting before transitioning to Summer to close the meeting. Toastmasters were encouraged to join the event tomorrow to support Savannah’s progression in the international speech competition – Toastmaster, you got this!
