Fast Forward/Rewind – March 3, 2023

Sunrise Toastmasters!

Toastmaster Savannah Murphy opened the meeting, encouraging us to consider race and our own passions through the lens of intersectionality, leading us deliberately to our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Savannah cleared any doubt on flagging bias, reminding us that we can use our bias flag to support our journey to become better speakers, and transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Norris Bass. Norris chose reconcile as the word of the day, providing us with another opportunity to use this word during the meeting. Roles for the agenda were reviewed, and another memorable Sunrise Toastmasters meeting began.

Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Kelly GentryKelly shared an Ice Breaker Speech. We learned more about our newest Toastmaster, sharing the advantages of being strong and vulnerable, and the necessity of appreciating weakness in order to grow. Excellent choice! In Sunrise Toastmaster tradition, a warm welcome was shared as each club member unmuted their mic and shared a round of applause. We are looking forward to hearing many more speeches in the future, many more.

Toastmaster Greg Sutton introduced our final speaker, Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni. Anu’s speech shared the value of family and mentors when pushing through challenging times in life. When you have support from people you’ve admired throughout your life, solid as rocks and mountains, it makes all the difference in the world. Excellent speech Toastmaster, it was an honor to listen and be present with you today.

Toastmaster Angela Marsh hosted Table Topics, engaging the Toastmasters in conversation to strengthen our ability to compose thoughts and speak intentionally in consideration of Women’s History month. Great job Angela!

Toastmaster Summer Murphy served as General Evaluator, summarizing the meeting with the thoughtful feedback that helps everyone continue to improve, and led the team sharing feedback and reports. Toastmaster’s Abdulrahman and Greg did a phenomenal job providing evaluation feedback to the speakers. Toastmaster Tanuja Reddy provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Savannah Murphy shared the Grammarian report – well done, team!

Toastmaster Norris reviewed roles and thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing Toastmasters meeting before transitioning to Savannah to close the meeting.
