Our esteemed Sergeant of Arms Officer, Toastmaster Tim Murphy, opened the meeting sharing his experience with racism and encouraged us to do our part, leading us into our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. In classic fashion, Tim shared how we can use our bias flag to help us be better communicators and transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Angela Marsh. Thoughtfully, Angela chose belonging as the word of the day and encouraged us to use this during the day’s meeting, reviewed roles and another memorable Sunrise Toastmaster’s meeting began.
Toastmaster Karen Rhodes introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Summer Murphy. Summer shared an insightful speech titled “Why Pathways”, sharing a journey of small and impactful benefits and accomplishments earned when completing a Pathway series. Karen acknowledged this wasn’t a small step, the energy and vibe translated well, and the impact of word choice was effective during this fantastic speech.
Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Kerstin Haase. Kerstin’s speech “Where there is a will, and a mentor, anything is possible!” described the characteristics of a good mentor, and life lessons learned in the corporate work place. This speech was easy to follow and understand and included gestures, great speech was the feedback shared by evaluator Abdulrahman.
Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni hosted Table Topics, engaging the Toastmasters to share in the chart, and selected Toastmasters to answer random questions on the topic of belonging, strengthening our ability to compose thoughts and speak conversationally.
Toastmaster John Doggett served as General Evaluator, summarizing the meeting with thoughtful feedback on the overall meeting, and led the team’s sharing of feedback and reports. Toastmaster Stiles Burr provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Maria Leon shared the Grammarian report – well done everyone!
Toastmaster Angela thanked everyone for a great meeting, reviewed roles for next week, and transitioned the meeting back to Toastmaster Tim, who thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing meeting before closing the meeting.
