Our VP of Education, Toastmaster Summer Murphy, opened the meeting taking us to Jackson Mississippi where there is still no safe drinking or bathing water for those who live there. Environmental racism is hard to pin down and investing in minority communities is necessary. With thoughtful reflection Summer led us into our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Welcoming our Toastmasters and guest, Summer transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Greg Sutton. Greg chose Evolve as the word of the day – to undergo evolutionary change. A quick round of introductions, sharing how we have evolved allowed another glimpse of each other’s lives, we began the meeting.
Toastmaster Karen Rhodes introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Renuka Korlipara. Renuka’s speech titled “Wooing at its finest” did an excellent job sharing the history, span of vehicles and the influence advertising has on its audience. Renuka was knowledgeable of the topic, the content shared was organized, well researched and was relatable as it was informative was feedback shared by evaluator Karen.
Toastmaster Angela Marsh, who introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Kerstin Haase. Kerstin’s speech titled “Spotlight’s on, speak up… I can’t hear you” was a persuasive speech to encourage advocacy in everyday life. Kerstin’s stories shared resonated with the audience well, planting a seed and encouraging others to start small was feedback shared by evaluator Angela.
Toastmaster Maria Leon hosted Table Topics, asking questions to the Toastmasters that focused on the WOD, strengthening our ability to speak conversationally.
Toastmaster Savannah Murphy served as General Evaluator, summarizing the meeting with thoughtful feedback and lead the team’s sharing of feedback and reports. Toastmaster Stiles Burr provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Abdul Albazie shared an excellent Grammarian report for the first time – well done everyone!
Toastmaster Greg thanked everyone for a great meeting, reviewed roles for next week, and transitioned the meeting back to Toastmaster Summer who in kind thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing meeting!
