VP of Education Kerstin Haase opened the meeting with inspiring insights, encouraging us to create an environment where all individuals are valued, respected, and given equal opportunities, leading us deliberately to our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Kerstin dispelled any doubts about the bias flag and encouraged us to use it to support our journey to becoming better speakers, and transitioned the meeting over to Toastmaster Greg Sutton. Greg chose balance as the word of the day.
Toastmaster Maria Leon introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Dave Burr. Dave’s speech aims to promote the rights, inclusion, and well-being of individuals with disabilities. It involves raising awareness about disability-related issues and advocating for equal opportunities and accessibility for people with disabilities. Maria shared feedback, providing constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement. Remarkable skills, toastmasters!
Table Topic Master Toastmaster Angela Marsh led an exciting question-and-answer session and encouraged everyone to participate—everyone did!—helping members improve their ability to think on their feet, speak spontaneously, and deliver concise and coherent responses to unexpected questions. Awesome work!
Toastmaster Karen Rhodes served as the General Evaluator, reflecting on the meeting as a whole, aiming to encourage growth and recognize the efforts of participants, and leading the team in sharing feedback and reports. Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni delivered the Timer report. Toastmaster Kerstin shared the Grammarian report. Prodigious talents!
Greg reviewed roles for next week and transitioned the meeting to Kerstin to close our always-balanced meeting.
