Hello Sunrise Toastmasters and Guests!
Rewind from September 4th
The meeting was held from 7:00AM – 7:58 AM at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in meeting room NT102A with 11 members and 2 returning guests present (welcome back Flores and Janie!).
President Summer Murphy opened the meeting with a brief introduction and announced that our meeting on September 11 will be held in room 0030 AHEC. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Summer introduced our Toastmaster Lolita Henley who provided mnemonic as the Word of the Day, and a theme of the meeting to be cultures and customs. The first speaker, Walt Abele, delivered his third speech in the Competent Communicator manual, titled “Starbucks or Charbucks: What Makes a Great Cup of Coffee?” which informed us of what makes the quality of a cup of coffee including the bean, the roasting, and the brewing process, but ultimately concluded that it is about our own taste preferences. The second speaker, Mike Stipanov, gave his speech titled, “Bring Humor to Your Work Day” which gave us humorous examples of how to keep it light and fun at work.
Dave Burr led table topics by asking participants to answer questions relevant to our theme of cultures and customs, ranging from superstitions, to celebrations, and to vacations.
Thanks to Jenna Willingham and Esther Khoury for evaluating the speeches, to Summer Murphy for evaluating the meeting in general, and to Tim Murphy for serving as Timer/Grammarian. Every member and guest participated in a speaking role at this tightly run and fun meeting.
