Rewind from December 11

This meeting was held at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in the North Tower (Room NT102A) and started at 7:00 AM with 9 members present.

President Summer Murphy opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. She then reminded everyone about the Special Toastmasters End of Year Holiday Celebration Meeting at 7:00am, December 18th, where club members and guests alike can enjoy a catered continental breakfast and all the festive joy this season has to offer. Please submit your RSVP for a head-count by 5pm today, December 11. Next, she handed it over to Dave Burr to lead the meeting as Toastmaster for the morning. Dave surmised that time travel is possible when you’re surrounded by familiar people, places, and experiences. Such reminiscence (Word of the Day) is a key fixture in tender American holiday traditions.

The first speaker, Bryan Alston, completed his second project in the Competent Communicator manual, titled ‘Becoming a Bridge Builder.’ In his trademark poetic style, he argued the value that life-on-life, bridge-building mentorship brings to the mentor, the mentee, and the world around us. The second speaker, Walt Abele, completed his fifth project in the same manual, titled ‘Building Better Boys with Rugby.’ As a high school rugby coach, he touted the sport’s impact on young men: boosting confidence, building functional strength, and unifying individuals to think and act as a team.

Tim Murphy led the club in Table Topics by asking for examples of personal growth through hardship. The club enjoyed 6 rounds of reflective table topics before moving into evaluations. Thanks to Phil Stringer and Jenna Willingham for serving as evaluators, to Lolita Henley for evaluating the meeting in general, and to Summer Murphy for serving as Timer/Grammarian.
