Hello Sunrise Toastmasters Members and guests!
Rewind from January 29
This fun, unique meeting took place in the North Tower (Room NT102A) of Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and started at 7:00 AM with 11 members and four guests present.
President Summer Murphy opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Next, she handed it over to Tim Murphy to lead the meeting as Toastmaster for the morning. The name of the game today was “Thinking on Your Feet”: a Tabletopics tips, tricks, and training ground. Right from the start, Tim set a relaxed tone so as not to discombobulate (Word of the Day) the flow of order.
Following some quick roundtable introductions, he welcomed up Dave Burr, who delivered the only prepared speech for the day. As Dave explained, practicing the skill of quick-thinking is so valuable in everyday life. When these opportunities arise, it helps to keep calm, own the question asked, and ignore that “head-trash” that clutters a natural response. Shortly after his speech, Summer Murphy and Lolita Henley held a nice practice round, allowing members to incorporate the speaker’s sage advice.
Without delay came the main event: Table Topics! Topicsmaster Lolita Henley ensured each person wishing to speak received the chance. She chose questions at random from a deck of topic cards, challenging respondents to “choose an area of land to preserve” and “name the room in their house they most desire to remodel.”
As the meeting drew to a close, Toastmaster Tim Murphy welcomed up Steve Stephens to evaluate the meeting and Jenna Willingham to deliver the Timer’s report. Tim thanked everyone present for their contributions and made a point to welcome back today’s four guests to future Sunrise Toastmasters meetings.
