Hello Sunrise Toastmasters Members and guests!
Rewind from October 30
This meeting was held at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in the North Tower (Room NT102A) and started at 7:00 AM. We had a total of eleven members and one guest present at our meeting (welcome back, Pam!).
President Summer Murphy opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and turned it over to Jenna Willingham, Toastmaster for the morning. Humorous reflections on Halloween customs kept the meeting light and enjoyable – far from ominous! (Word of the Day)
The first speaker, Summer Murphy, completed project #1 in the Storytelling manual, titled ‘The Tale of Stingy Jack.’ In her interpreted tall tale, she spun the story of a man so clever and stingy, he was said to have outwitted the devil himself – in the end, he got his due and is now memorialized in vegetable-lanterns. Could that really be the story of the modern-day Jack-o-lantern? You decide! The second speaker, Dave Burr, delivered a pocket speech titled ‘Mid-Life Theatre Crisis.’ Dave’s ever-evolving love of community theatre and his commitment to Toastmasters build on one another week by week. The audience enjoyed hearing how this unique juxtapositions plays out in his own life… the dramatic ‘death scene’ conclusion was an added bonus!
Phil Stringer led the club in Halloween-y Table Topics and we all enjoyed eight rounds before moving into evaluations. Thanks to Phil and Tim Murphy for serving as evaluators, to Mike Stipanov for evaluating the meeting in general and doubling as Timer/Grammarian.
