Our Secretary, Toastmaster Amelya Black, opened the meeting focusing our attention on Hurricane Ian and the systemic racism that exists in underserved marginalized communities impacted by natural disasters. Mindfully leading us into our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement, Amelya transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Tim Murphy. Tim chose Love as the word of the day, letting us define it and encouraged us to use the word in our responses during the meeting. Introductions were made welcoming our returning Toastmasters and our Guest Yanah, and the meeting began.
Toastmaster John Doggett introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Savannah Murphy. Savannah’s speech brought to light the whitewashed history of the Doodlebug and reminded us the importance of humans acceptance and involvement of the queer community in zoological studies and beyond! This speech was a revised speech, well researched and executed flawlessly. The first speech was great, incorporating feedback made the speech excellent, was feedback shared by evaluator John.
Toastmaster Amelya introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni. Anu’s speech was insightful and thoughtful, taking us through a day when the unexpected happens, and the feelings and emotions that escape into our lives. Wonderful speech, we’ve all been there, lived through it and we can relate. The pace was great and the speech executed perfectly. Learn to be kind and to love ourselves is important, well done, was feedback shared by evaluator Amelya.
Toastmaster Angela Marsh hosted Table Topics, engaging the Toastmasters to share experience based on random questions, while strengthening our ability to compose thoughts and speak conversationally in a collected manner.
Toastmaster Tanuja Reddy served as General Evaluator, summarizing the meeting with thoughtful feedback and led the team’s sharing of feedback and reports. Toastmaster Summer Murphy provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Kerstin Haase shared the Grammarian report – well done everyone!
Toastmaster Tim thanked everyone for a great meeting, reviewed roles for next week, and transitioned the meeting back to Toastmaster Amelya, who in kind thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing meeting.
The next Sunrise Toastmasters meeting will be at 7 am, October 7 EST on Zoom.
