Fast Forward/Rewind – December 2, 2022
Our VP of Education, Toastmaster Summer Murphy, opened the meeting on a positive note, sharing the news of Hakeem Jeffries as the first Black Leader-elect of the Democratic caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, leading us intentionally into our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Summer reminded us how we can use our bias flag and transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Dave Burr. With purpose, Dave chose portrait as the word of the day, and encouraged us to use this during the meeting. We reviewed roles, and as volunteers rose up, another Sunrise Toastmaster’s meeting began.
Toastmaster Kerstin Haase introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster John Doggett. John shared a speech titled “My Brother Matthew”, a heartwarming humorous speech from the Dynamic Leadership Pathway on effective Body Language. “My brother is normal according to all my tests” was the takeaway quote. You’re getting really good John! Your use of hand and facial gestures throughout the speech resonated well. Including humor with heartfelt life lessons made this a great speech, great job, was feedback shared by Kerstin.
Toastmaster Tim Murphy introduced our final speaker, Toastmaster Norris Bass. Norris shared a speech titled “Downs and Autism Again”, an informative and well-structured speech from the Persuasive Influence Pathway. “Being persistent for what your child needs is most important” was an excellent quote Norris shared. An honor to evaluate this speech. Relevant feedback was incorporated, a mention of the WOD, I like this version the best! was feedback shared by Tim.
Toastmaster Stiles Burr hosted a well-researched Table Topics, engaging the Toastmasters to share their feedback based on portrait artists, strengthening our ability to compose thoughts and speak conversationally.
Toastmaster Savannah Murphy served as General Evaluator, summarizing the meeting with thoughtful feedback that helped everyone continue to improve, and led the team sharing feedback and reports. Toastmaster Greg Sutton provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Summer Murphy shared the Grammarian report – well done everyone!
Toastmaster Dave reviewed roles for next week, and transitioned the meeting back to Toastmaster Summer, who thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing Toastmasters meeting, before closing the meeting.
