Fast Forward/Rewind – November 17, 2023

Our President, Summer Murphy, opened the meeting with insights about disparities that are rooted in historical and ongoing racial biases, resulting in limited opportunities, unequal access to resources, and persistent socio-economic gaps, leading us deliberately to our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Summer dispelled any doubts about bias flag and encouraged us to use it to support our journey of becoming better speakers. She then transitioned the meeting over to Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni. Anu chose “Celebrate” as the word of the day, setting an enthusiastic tone for the meeting!

Toastmaster Dave Burr introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster John Doggett. John captivated the audience with a heartfelt speech that focused on sharing stories about his family and older sister. He highlighted his sister’s resilience and strength in overcoming challenges, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Dave‘s insightful feedback further enriched the speech, making it even more memorable.

Toastmaster Tim Murphy introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Stiles Burr. Stiles delivered a speech that revolved around guitar practicing and the School of Rock’s role in music education. He shared personal experiences, offering valuable insights into the rehearsal strategies employed by the School of Rock. Stiles emphasized the significance of learning to play instruments and the supportive role of the community. Tim provided valuable feedback, offering constructive insights and suggestions for improvement.

Table Topic Master Toastmaster Summer skillfully guided an interactive question-and-answer session, fostering creativity and spontaneity while creating an atmosphere of anticipation with intriguing and unpredictable questions.

Toastmaster Tina Joe served as a General Evaluator, overseeing the overall effectiveness and quality of our meeting. She skillfully facilitated the sharing of feedback and reports among the team. Toastmaster Anu delivered the Timer report, efficiently fulfilling a double role. Toastmaster Abdulrahman provided a concise Grammarian report.

Anu reviewed the upcoming meeting’s roles and smoothly handed over to Summer to adjourn the meeting.
