Our President, Summer Murphy, commenced the meeting with a great story of overcoming racism and promoting equality through shared humanity and generosity, where Emma and Gus Thompson helped the Dong family rise above discriminatory practices, leading to a significant donation to Historically Black Universities to support young black students in achieving their dreams, and leading us to the moment of silence in support and acknowledgement of the Black Lives Matter movement. Summer also introduced the bias flag, encouraging its use as a tool to foster growth in our journey toward becoming more effective speakers, handing over the reins to our Toastmaster for the day, Tina Joe. Tina set the tone by introducing the word of the day, “Epoch.”
In a mesmerizing speech the first speaker, Toastmaster Tim Murphy, held the audience spellbound with his speech titled “To Inspire and Keep in Touch.” Murphy shared his personal experience of using a unique program that allows travelers to stay in beautiful homes while minimizing housing costs. He aims to inspire his friends, share his own experiences, and encourage home-sharing-idea among them. Toastmaster Dave Burr provided feedback, offering constructive insights and suggestions for improvement.
In a speech titled “Your Style Means You,” our second speaker Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie explored the diverse communication styles and their impact on others. He emphasized the lasting impression we leave on people through how we make them feel. Sharing personal encounters, Albazie highlighted how different circumstances shape people’s reactions, urging them to reflect on their own communication styles and consider their influence on others. Toastmaster Anu Parvathaneni provided feedback, acknowledging strengths and suggesting areas for improvement.
Toastmaster Tina Joe led an engaging table topic session, presenting thought-provoking questions to elicit spontaneous and impactful responses. The interactive segment aimed to enhance participants’ ability to think on their feet, articulate thoughts effectively, and deliver impromptu responses with confidence.
Toastmaster Hema Kellet took on the role of General Evaluator, providing a comprehensive assessment of the meeting and recognizing outstanding performances. Toastmaster Saraswathi Mahalingam delivered the Timer report, ensuring adherence to allotted time. Toastmaster Summer Murphy presented the Grammarian report, offering feedback on language usage and suggestions for improvement.
Tina Joe passed the meeting to Summer, who concluded and adjourned the session.
