In her opening remarks at the meeting, President Summer Murphy shed light on the significance of organizations like Prosperity Now in tackling economic injustice head-on. These organizations advocate for policy reforms, lend their voice to the cause of black homeowners, offer instrumental support to black businesses, and extend invaluable tax guidance to low-income families. The critical role these entities play, citing the inherent flaws of the current economic system that perpetuates a privileged few, calling for an urgent need for a transformative change and equitable economic landscape. Summer led us to the moment of silence in support and acknowledgement of the Black Lives Matter movement. She also introduced the bias flag as a tool for personal growth in our journey of becoming better speakers, and turned the meeting over to Toastmaster Kerstin Haase who set the tone with the word of the day “Hope,” inspiring individuals and communities to pursue their goals and envision a better future!
Toastmaster Norris Baase introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Stiles Burr, who shared a humorous and amusing speech about his time during spring training in Arizona. Burr recounted a prank he and his colleagues played on the equipment staff by creating fictional events and posting flyers around the office, and jokingly hoping that the equipment staff would not discover the extensive collection of flyers created by the travel staff. Norris provided feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
Toastmaster Hema Kellet introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Tina Joe, who delivered a presentation titled “Perspectives Redefined: A Journey into Mind Architecture and Lifestyle Design,” which was influenced by feedback from her previous speech. The first season explores Neuroscience, History, and Epigenetics across six episodes. The overarching theme, “Crowning of a New Way: Old Ways, New Concepts,” promises discovery and enlightenment. Topics include brain adaptability, key brain components, the influence of epigenetics, the impact of historical context, the interplay of genetics, history, and environment, and the significance of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Tina expressed enthusiasm for unraveling the mysterious connections that shape our world and invited viewers to join her in exploring the mysteries of the past, present, and future. Hema offered feedback, acknowledging strengths and providing constructive suggestions for improvement.
Toastmaster Savannah Murphy led a dynamic table topic questions session, fostering quick thinking, effective articulation, and confident on-the-spot communication skills. Well crafted, Savannah!
Toastmaster Tim Murphy, as the General Evaluator, offered comprehensive feedback and recognized outstanding performances. Toastmaster Summer Murphy, the Timer, ensured adherence to time limits, while Toastmaster Saraswathi Mahalingam, as the Grammarian, provided language feedback and suggestions.
With a seamless transition, Kerstin handed over the reins of the meeting to Summer, who wrapped up the meeting and adjourned it.
