President, Toastmaster Amelya Black, opened the meeting sharing the importance of a moment, deliberately leading us to our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Amelya cleared the air, increasing our awareness to flagging unconscious bias, reminding us how to use our bias flag to raise awareness and support our journey to become better speakers, transitioning the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Summer Murphy. Summer chose ally as the word of the day, defining and encouraging use of this word during the meeting. Summer welcomed our guest Latoya Neal by asking people what they are passionate about, love this! We reviewed the meeting agenda, and another memorable Sunrise Toastmasters meeting began.
Toastmaster Karen Rhodes introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Kelly Gentry. Kelly had us all captivated with the speech titled “Synesthesia – A Perceptual Phenomenon”. Only the second time we heard this speaker, speaking skills shared with us was impressive. Kelly reviewed the 3 subtypes of synesthesia and took us on a journey to learning and understanding about sensory pathways and perceptual associations. This speech very informative, the speaker had a keen understanding of the topic and related well with the audience, presentation well executed. Well done, Toastmaster!
Toastmaster Abdulrahman Albazie introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Tim Murphy. Tim did an excellent job taking us on a gratefulness journey! The speech titled “The 40th High School Reunion: A Gratefulness Journey Not A Destination” did not disapont. This seasoned Toastmaster and Sargent of Arms shared the plan, creating an experience over an evening in Jersey. This speech gave us hope, that someone would be so thoughtful leading us into our 40th High School Reunion! This was a thoughtful well constructed, enjoyable speech. And the presentation was excellent, well done Toastmaster!
During Table Topics, Kerstin Haase led an engaging question answer session on the WOD, challenging Toastmasters in a spontaneous conversation session to strengthen our ability to compose thoughts and speak intentionally. Nicely done Kerstin!
Serving as our General Evaluator, Savannah Murphy summarized the breakfast of champions portion of our meeting with depth and knowledgeable feedback, thank you! Insightful and thoughtful speech evaluations were provided by Toastmasters Karen and Abdulrahman noticing all the details, strengths, and areas to improve – each are essential, well done! Toastmaster Maria Leon volunteered and provided another stellar Timer report and Toastmaster John Doggett shared the Grammarian report with detail, acknowledging use of the word of the day. As a team they collectively helped their fellow Toastmaster’s continued learning and growth – well done everyone!
