Hello Sunrise Toastmasters Members and guests!

Rewind from June 17

This meeting was held at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in the North Tower (Room NT102A) at 7:00am with 9 members and two guests present. President Summer Murphy opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Summer discussed club officer leadership nominations for next year’s term and a bylaws amendment for officers replacement during their term.  She then turned the meeting over to Tim Murphy as Toastmaster for the morning.  Tim chose the theme of ‘National Flip Flop Day’ for today’s meeting, explaining that we earn our “flip flop” time by putting in the hard work when the laces on our work books are laced up tight. The unusual Word of the Day was pandiculation.  Speakers were challenged to either use the word or act it out, and in a bold CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, every Toastmaster worked it in to their presentations!

The first speaker for the day was Zach Sullivan, who completed his fifth project in the Competent Communication manual, titled: ‘Eating by the Numbers’   Zach spoke about his time in Officer’s Training in the Navy, and how among other things they taught the candidates to eat in a specific numeric series of motions.  The second speaker, Dave Burr, tackled the difficult topic of tolerance, and how he became more self-aware of his thoughts involving the LGBT community.  Thank you to both speakers for an exceptional job!

Topicsmaster Summer Murphy led the group in a humorous Table Topics series that matched random items to be sold to random celebrities. A special thanks to Jenna Willingham  and Angela Marsh for evaluating the speeches, to Phil Monroe for serving as Timer/Grammarian, and to Joe Stack for evaluating the meeting in general.
