Rewind / Fast-Forward #48 (June 25 – July 1)

Hello Sunrise Toastmasters Members and guests!

Rewind from June 25

This meeting was held at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in the North Tower (Room NT102A) at 7:05am with 7 members present. President Summer Murphy opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Summer opened with a few remarks on her tenure as President, saying how much she has enjoyed leading Sunrise Toastmasters this past year. In response, the club thanked her for extending herself and developing the club so faithfully.

With no further remarks, she began her speech titled, “Intro to Coding” – the third project in her Technical Presentations manual. Summer artfully explained the basics of computer coding, how it shapes our modern world, and why everyone should have just enough computer fluency to be dangerous. Her knack for keeping a complex topic simple coupled with her always-engaging demos helped the audience grasp the material well. What else can you say? She seems in her element when she’s teaching from the stage. Thank you and bravo, Summer!

Next, Toastmaster Zach Sullivan set up the tone for the rest of the meeting with his theme of “Desserts” and the Word of the Day as “olykoek”, a Dutch synonym for the oh-so-delicious doughnut. Shortly thereafter, he welcomed up Topicsmaster Dave Burr to lead the group in a fun round of Table Topics based on the thrill of road tripping. A special thanks to Steve Stephens for evaluating Summer’s speech and to Mike Stipanov for serving as Timer/Grammarian.
