Fast Forward/Rewind – October 14th, 2022

Sunrise Toastmasters are always welcome!

Our President, Toastmaster Amelya Black, opened the meeting calling for the mindful engaged citizens present, promoters of our passions, to raise our voices in respect and honor of those engaging. The hurting, those striving against the oppression of structural, environmental, and systemic racism, with those in mind Amelya led us into our minute of silence in acknowledgement and support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Amelya also reminded us how we can use our bias flag to help us be better communicators, and transitioned the meeting to the day’s Toastmaster Karen Rhodes. Thoughtfully, Karen chose amplify as the word of the day and encouraged us to use this during the day’s meeting. Karen’s strength as a Toastmaster did not go unnoticed, as we welcomed our guest and reviewed roles a memorable Sunrise Toastmaster’s meeting began.

Toastmaster Amelya introduced our first speaker, Toastmaster Stiles BurrStiles shared an impactful speech on the negative effect smartphones have on mental health. This amplified speech was packed with research and observations, including advice to encourage a change in behavior. Amelya shared that the speech started strong, which is important, and was conversational in an impactful way.

Toastmaster Kerstin Haase introduced our second speaker, Toastmaster Tim MurphyTim’s storytelling speech sharing three modes of transportation took us along a couple’s journey through life’s destinations in a humorous, delightful way. Fabulous speech was the feedback shared by evaluator Kerstin.

Toastmaster Greg Sutton hosted Table Topics, engaging the Toastmasters to share their experience based on random questions on the topic of amplify while strengthening our ability to compose thoughts and speak conversationally.

Toastmaster Maria Leon served as General Evaluator, summarizing the meeting with thoughtful feedback noted from each speaker that amplified the meeting succinctly, and led the team’s sharing of feedback and reports. Toastmaster Tanuja Reddy provided the Timer report and Toastmaster Summer Murphy shared the Grammarian report – well done everyone!

Toastmaster Karen thanked everyone for a great meeting, reviewed roles for next week, and transitioned the meeting back to Toastmaster Amelya, who thanked everyone for their participation in another amazing meeting before closing the meeting.
