Rewind from November 6
Despite the dreary rainy weather this week, the sun seemed to shine at the meeting this morning. The meeting was held at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in the North Tower (Room NT102A) and started at 7:00 AM. We had a total of eight members present.
President Summer Murphy opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and turned it over to Walter Abele, Toastmaster for the morning. Rain, rain, rain, a deluge (Word of the Day) of rain, flooded through Walt’s theme for the day, rain.
The first speaker, Lisa Zimmerschied, completed project #1 in the Competent Communication manual, the Ice Breaker, titled ‘The Road Not Taken’. Her journey took us down the road of grabbing success where others viewed failure, and tales of serendipitous alphabetic Trigonometry seating assignments. The second speaker, Tim Murphy, completed project #1 in the advanced Storytelling manual, titled ‘Pirates’. Reciting the poetry of Greg Lake and Keith Emerson, Tim channeled his inner Johnny Depp to elicit the swashbuckling temptations and aspirations of a marauding pirate captain through storytelling.
Steve Stephens led the club in impromptu Table Topics and we all enjoyed five rounds before moving into evaluations. Thanks to Summer Murphy and Will Koppenhaver for serving as evaluators, to Dave Burr for serving as Timer/Grammarian, and Esther Khoury for evaluating the meeting in general. In preparation for a business presentation tonight, Steve Stephens practiced his presentation and welcomed feedback from all members. Positive ideas were shared by all, and the meeting concluded promptly at 8 am.
