Hello and Happy New Year to all Sunrise Toastmasters Members and Guests!
Rewind from December 18
This fun, year-end meeting took place in the North Tower (Room NT102A) of Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. After a brief social time, the meeting began at 7:15 AM with 10 members and one guest present.
President Summer Murphy opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Next, she handed it over to Steve Stephens to lead the meeting as Toastmaster for the morning. He gave each person an opportunity to share a benevolent (Word of the Day) act that others may have showed us in our time of need. To that end, Steve encouraged attendees to demonstrate benevolence this holiday season. Today’s speaker, Dave Burr, nailed a pocket speech titled, ‘Did You Ever? Have You Ever?’ that hearkened back to holiday times of old. Certainly, the season’s traditions evolve in meaning and memories – but how often do we pause to live in the moment? One could conclude that his speech gave a fresh appreciation to the way we each experience the joys this time of year.
Esther Khoury led the club in some lighthearted, holiday-centric Table Topics. The club enjoyed 4 rounds of table topics before moving into evaluations. Thanks to Tim Murphy for serving as Dave’s evaluator, to Walt Abele for evaluating the meeting in general, and to Angela Marsh for serving as Timer/Grammarian.
